Our daughter was five days old when she began having seizures at home. After getting to the ER and hearing she had suffered a stroke, we were baffled. She was flown to Denver Children's Hospital where we began the process of trying to understand what had happened, and what this would mean for her life.
We never did find a "reason" for the stroke. I heard so many scary possibilities and was given a list of difficulties she may experience. It was terrifying, but we vowed to try and give her the best opportunities we could and try to never hold her back.
She is a bright, fun, five year old with a little bit of a sassy attitude in all the nest ways. She has gone through speech therapy, occupational therapy and some physical therapy to keep her on track with her peers. She does have to work harder between her therapy appointments and school, but upon meeting her you will see a lively and incredibly animated kid.
We are grateful Noelle had the seizures (which sounds crazy) but it alerted us to the issue and we were able to get her help right away. This also allowed us the opportunity to enroll her in early intervention and therapies at a young age. If you know of a child who had a stroke, I want to let you know that while doctors have a lot of medical information, your kid will surprise you in so many ways. Never assume they are incapable, and hold onto hope!
